Samples of two print projects designed by Stephen Belovarich.
Ink on Paper
An ongoing collection of fine art prints by Stephen Belovarich. These art works detail the increasingly difficult situation of viewing the night sky due to light pollution. Conductive Ink and glow ink on paper become outlets for my creative expression on this subject matter of my spiritual connection to the Night Sky.
Prism Glassworks
This project is a set of corporate logos, business cards, and stickers Steve Belovarich designed for Prism Glassworks, a small glass blowing company located in Troy, NY. The client wanted a skeleton blowing glass, which he incorporated into the logo design as the “I” in PRISM. The other letters were filled with paintings originated from the glass blower’s unique style. The business card had to include a punch card for customers, similar to a coffee card. The punch holes were designed in such a way so the punches didn’t interfere with, but added to the front design of the business card. Three stickers were created for the client, each one displays an element of the glass blower’s designs alongside a skeleton or angelic imagery.
Culture Jamming Sticker Campaign
This project is an experiment in culture jamming. Post Cereals, owned an operated by Phillip Morris, Inc. was in a state of transition in 2003, as Philip Morris changed the name of the parent company to Altria Group Inc. All companies previously under Philip Morris’ corporate brand now resided under Altria Group, as to disassociate food companies like Kraft Foods and Post Cereals from the growing awareness of the harmful effects of cigarettes. Years earlier cigarette companies facing huge lawsuits from angry Americans who were lied to about the harmful effects of cigarette smoking were forced to diversify and purchase food corporations to stay financially afloat. These food companies use Genetically Modified ingredients, fillers, and include possibly harmful side effects from fertilizers and pesticides in their products. Now cigarette companies have a foot hold on the American food industry and they are up to the same ole dirty tricks. This project serves to expose Post Cereals as an associate of Philip Morris, Inc. by displaying the cereal’s cartoon characters as smokers. A sticker campaign was created and freely downloadable on the internet, so anyone could place stickers revealing “A pack of cigarettes is in every box” on the back of Golden Crisp and AlphaBits Cereal Boxes that were on supermarket store shelves in 2003. The designs of the stickers blended in with the back of the cereal boxes, so consumers would bring the social messages home with them.
